Artist Information

The last two years have been busy for Ian’s studio work.  In February 2006 he successfully showed a number of artworks at the Drawings and Paintings Fair, Royal Academy, London and sold five out of the eight paintings on display with Elford Fine Art.  In May, he was invited to hang new works at the Delamore Arts exhibition, the prestigious showcase for artists in Devon.
Later in Elford Fine Art hosted Ian’s one man show at their Tavistock gallery.  This was the first and only time the entire collection from his book Classic Boats of the West Country would be shown.
Ian has also undertaken several private commissions.  One in particular, for the Royal Navy, was a painting of their latest survey ship HMS Enterprise.  (See painting below)
Ian is currently working on his new book of paintings, the first of two on the coastline of the west country where he lives.

Ian Heard's Classic Boats of the West Country published by Bossiney Books is an Artist's view of the working craft of Devon and Cornwall
"The craft and their details are exquisitely drawn with Heard's eye for scale and form bringing the boats to life"     CLASSIC BOAT MAGAZINE

Ian is producing a range of limited editions from the book in his own Devon studio and are a available from Farawayisland Giclee

In Summer 2007, the National Maritime Museum Cornwall showed a collection of Ian Heard's paintings and prints. These related to his life long interest in the working boats of Britain, a subject that continues to fascinate. The museum shop has several Giclee prints of his work available and their restaurant area had a permanent display of his work on their walls.

He also took part in the Tavistock arts week, sharing an exhibition in the town's Bedford Hotel.

In January 2008, he held an exhibition of his work in conjunction with Boteler Contemporary Arts, in Salisbury. Later this summer he is exhibiting in the Drawn to the Valley, Open studios event in a headline exhibition called "the Tide table artists" at Weir Quay. Dates to be confirmed. This summer will also see the publication of Ian's second book of paintings and drawings.
